Invisalign FAQs

How do I take care of my Invisalign aligners?

Invisalign aligner care is quite easy! You’ll take your aligners out when you eat meals and when you do your oral hygiene routine. You can clean your aligners using the Invisalign cleaning system. The cleaning crystals are added to water, and you then soak the aligners in this solution for around 15 minutes. Then, rinse your aligners in water and place them back in your mouth. Many patients find that it’s easiest to clean the aligners while they’re brushing and flossing because this means your mouth is completely clean for the aligners. If you put clean aligners back in an unclean mouth, you can trap bacteria and debris in your teeth and gums.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Invisalign treatment can vary based on what type of issues you’re dealing with. Dr. Pearson will discuss your goals and treatment plan with you before you get started. Most patients wear Invisalign for around 12-18 months, but your treatment could be shorter or longer than that. You could start noticing positive changes in as little as several weeks.

How do I get Invisalign?

The first step is a comprehensive exam with Dr. Pearson. The exam includes 3D images of your mouth that reveal your bite issues or other orthodontic problems in detail so Dr. Pearson can map out the optimal treatment plan for you. If your exam reveals that you’re a good candidate for Invisalign, you can get started with by ordering your aligners as soon as that day.

How much does Invisalign cost?

The price of Invisalign can vary based on how long your treatment takes and also on what type of problems you’ve got. For most patients, Invisalign ends up costing around the same price as traditional metal braces. Dr. Pearson will discuss the projected cost with you during your Invisalign evaluation so you know what to expect.

What if I lose my aligners?

If you lose your aligners, don’t panic — but do reach out to Pearson Orthodontics right away so you can keep your treatment on track. Dr. Pearson can recommend a solution like replacement aligners or using the next set of aligners early based on your needs and the situation.

How is Invisalign different from braces?

Invisalign is different than braces in some very significant ways. The first and most obvious difference is the material. Invisalign is made from very comfortable clear plastic aligner trays that sit atop your teeth like a snug second skin because they’re custom made for you. Invisalign corrects gently, using a series of aligners that you switch out every 1-2 weeks. Braces are made from stainless steel or ceramic brackets and wires that shift your teeth with a low-grade force that could be uncomfortable at times.

Does Invisalign fit an active lifestyle?

Absolutely! In fact, many active teens and adults say that Invisalign is the ideal teeth straightening tool for them. You can even play sports with no worries — simply remove your aligners when you play. Of course, you should still wear a mouthguard to protect your teeth anytime you’re playing sports. Patients of all ages love how flexible Invisalign is: you can take the aligners out for the occasional special event. With Invisalign, your lifestyle can be just as busy and full as ever — and you’ll look great while you live it.
